The Greatest Surprise
June 8th, 2022 will be a date I will never forget. It changed our lives.
But I need to start off from the beginning. Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, I woke up knowing that I needed to find out if I was pregnant. I set my alarm to wake up before the kids and locked myself in the bathroom. I paced waiting for the results and couldn’t believe my eyes when it said “PREGNANT”. I laughed so hard while staring at that unexpected surprise. I was EXCITED but man that was last thing I expected after having surgery 3 weeks prior.
That night I made a tank top for Genevieve to wear to surprise Jack. I wouldn’t be able to share with him until Friday morning and I could not wait! The look on his face was priceless when he read her shirt “promoted to big sister”. We were going to now be a family of 5!! We told our families over Memorial Day weekend, and everyone was just as surprised as us.
Which brings me to June 8th, 2022. We had our first ultrasound appointment, and we were anxious to see our baby. Well as soon as the ultrasound was started, we got a surprise of a lifetime……TWINS! I saw it immediately that there were two babies growing inside me and both were wiggling all around with perfect little heartbeats. We looked at each other and just started laughing. See the night before, I had a lovely little argument with our daughter Genevieve. I told her that we were going to see the baby at the appointment, and we would have a picture to show her. Well, she insisted that there were two babies and not just one, well SHE WAS RIGHT!!!
We just couldn’t believe that we were adding two babies to our family, not just one. We talked about how excited we were the whole way home. When we got home, we showed the pictures to Genevieve first. She didn’t understand what she was looking at but my parents did. They couldn’t believe that two more grandbabies were going to be in their lives. Jack was able to tell his parents that following week and they were excited.
I immediately went into planning mode because we were going to need double of everything. I made a registry to start a list so I wouldn’t lose it (pregnancy brain was for real at the time). I just kept adding to it every time I thought of something that would hopefully make our lives easier with having two older kids while the babies were little.
I stared at the image below along with the others not truly believing that there were two little beans growing. It felt magical that I would get to carry two beautiful babes and get to experience something that not everyone gets to. I also of course was wondering would it be two boys, two girls or my gut feeling of a boy and a girl. I figured how perfect is this….Jameson and Genevieve will each have a baby to help with and they won’t be fighting over just one. Well in a couple of weeks, our lives were going to change yet again and we didn’t know the impact it would have on us.
